Painting Small and Simple

Lately, I’ve become enamored with painting small and simple. It began with watercolors, the medium I’m most familiar with, and from there it meandered through gouache to acrylics.

The painting above is of a very old farmhouse just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. My own love affair with this place began over 35 years ago! (cue shocked emoji) This particular painting will be gifted to one of the family members/owners of said farmhouse.

I’m slowly but surely amassing a collection of home portraits – all of our six homes over the years. Portrait number four is of our former home in Virginia – my favorite. It was small but mighty in personality with wide plank floors, exposed beams, a fireplace in the kitchen and a view of the Blue Ridge Parkway (sigh). I loved that place and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

This is what I’ve been doing in the art world. In my other world I’ve begun the process of planning our daughter’s wedding. (cue shocked emoji again) I have to admit, things have changed a bit in the wedding world since I last did it.

What have you been up to?
