food for thought
This past Sunday I heard a sermon from a series called "Breathing Room" which resonated across all lines, religious or not. Our message was about how we use our time.
We don't really think about the fact that our time/life has a limited number of hours but like it or not, it does. (we just don't know how many hours) For example, if we have an important work deadline, we prioritize and organize our time so that the most important things are done rather than filling the hours with unimportant tasks. Our takeaway quote...
"Remembering that our time is limited
provides us with the wisdom to know how to spend our limited time."
Our homework for the week...
+ (one thing we'd add to our time)
- (one thing we'd take away)
> (something to do more of)
< (something to do less of)
On that note, he mentioned Bronnie Ware, a hospice worker from Australia who asked hundreds of dying people their biggest regrets in life. The number one regret? They wish they'd had the courage to live a life true to themselves, not a life others expected of them.
I haven't been here for a while. It seems I've been very busy these past months and so your post is very timely.
ReplyDeleteMany of us are busy trying to be successful or gathering up possessions, or like some men I overheard in a fast food joint yesterday--drinking themselves into a stupor. I wonder what each of us would do if we actually knew how many days we had left to live.
Your new blog design is beautiful!!!
Awesome, Lori - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post! I wrote something along these lines, the other day, about "Who am I?" It behooves us all to find out who we are and be that person. There is peace in being ourselves.
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking a lot about this very subject. It seems like a very manageable way to approach this on a weekly basis. I was just looking at the quote above my desk which reads, "If you are lucky enough to find a way of life you love you have to find the courage to live it." ~ John Irving
ReplyDeleteI am working on finding my courage and strength. Thank you for the inspiration! Enjoy the day. Erin
Wow Lori - this is one powerful post. Thought a lot about this subject here lately, so it's timely as well. Not knowing how much time I have and acting as if it's limitless has me doing many things that, if I was truly honest with myself, I wouldn't be doing if I knew when the clock would stop ticking. So, in deeper thought we go,.....
ReplyDeleteWell said! Thanks, and now to try and put into action. Again. Lynn W
ReplyDeleteThought provoking. What Bronnie found is quite telling, nor to work out how to best live the hours we have.....while being true to ourselves.
ReplyDeleteVery thought provoking...
ReplyDeleteThat was such a lovely post, thank you! I am working on all of the items you had listed...
