tgi...long weekend/week/weekend

Enthusiasm abounds. Emotions are at an all time high and a much needed holiday week is in front of me. In all honesty, I'll probably pop in because, well, this is what I love.

Thought I'd show you what became of the two, most recent projects. One is in the shop and one will be later today. I sincerely love the fabric and leather combinations and the backpack? Let's just say that the model and I are kind of fighting over it.

This wool is the coolest - I'll squeeze out every scrap. And you can't see it in these photos, but the leather is so super distressed - in a really good way.

This came together surprisingly well - like riding a bike, on a clear day, with no rocks or slippery stuff on the path. So much so that I'll make another.

Special weekend/week/holiday plans?
I'll be prepping and cleaning for company next week. And, of course, Jeff will be coming home from Ohio - YAY! Scariest part? I'll be in charge of the Thanksgiving feast.

For the first time.

Ever. Yep, Jeff (a.k.a. Mr. Waterstone) is the real cook in the family.

Help a girl out.

Favorite Thanksgiving dish?

  1. The bag and back pack are amazing. I love cooking Thanksgiving dinner, although I don't do the turkey or ham. They get done in a super secret way on the smoker. I have so many favourite dishes but I am slightly embarrased to say that we all love green bean casserole. You know the one with mushroom soup and those crunchy onions out of a can. Do you read Real Simple? Last months issue has some amazing make ahead recipes that we are using this year like sausage stuffing and cranberry fig relish. Really I could go on and on. This is my favourite holiday feast.

  2. If you're doing a turkey, use one of the oven bags--they really work!

Mashed Potato Casserole--can be made the night before and heated on the big day: cook 8-10 medium potatoes (cut in chunks) until fork tender. Mash with a quarter cup milk, then mix in 8 oz lowfat cream cheese, 18 oz low fat sour cream, a bit of garlic or onion powder, salt & pepper to taste. Do a taste test to see if you need more seasoning. Pour into a greased 9x13 pan, dot with pats of butter. Let cool a bit, cover and refrigrate overnight--it will be a bit runny but will firm up. It should take about an hour to bake from coming out of the fridge, or about 35 if you make it the same day. It's done when it is hot througout, and golden around the edges. Sprinkle with paprika and serve. If you are serving more than 10 people, use more potatoes, cream cheese, milk and sour cream.

I would suggest for your first time, make one or two time consuming dishes (like the meat and the dessert), and make the rest simple ones.

I love the classic greenbean casserole, corn casserole (super easy), fresh greens, etc.

For dessert you could do a pumpkin roll ahead and serve with whipped cream, or check out Matthew Meads Jelly Glass Pumpkin Trifle:

  3. The backpack is so cool - I can see why you guys are fighting over it. I love my aunt's stuffing dish. I can't cook worth anything so I always looking forward to Thanksgiving for my aunt and cousin's cooking! I do make a apple dip that is just marshmallow fluff and cream cheese. You mix a jar of the fluff and a box of the cream cheese together, let it sit for a few hours in the fridge, cut up some Granny Smith apples, bring out the fluff mix and go to town! For about a month that is all I ate for dinner - that was during my skinny days of working out :)
I hope you have a great holiday!

  5. Super easy dessert-Pumpkin pie cake! It is so yummy. No crust, no fuss. Can make ahead or same day. Just bake in a 9x13 pan. Give a shout if you want to try it. I got the recipe from my stepson's wife. And am totally addicted to it :)

  6. Oh, goodness, I *love* that bag! I'd take the backpack too, in a heartbeat, but I'm more of a bag lady. errr..well, you know what I mean ;)

As to Thanksgivings, we usually are the "we're coming over" side of the family ;) I don't cook, and my husband typically works (he's a chef), so we impose upon other people... That being said, my favorite dishes are mashed potatoes and a meat stuffing. Yum. But don't ask me how to prepare them ;)

  7. I love, love your backpack. The old leather and that fabric...pretty awesome for a first time attempt. I have been a long time dabbler of making my own purses and totes..just once in a while when in a mood, and your stuff is always the stuff I love the most; up-cylced material and unique designs.

  8. My husband and like ribs for Thanksgiving. He hates turkey. I make a mean mashed potato. The key is the old ricer I found at a garage sale for 50 cents! It makes it so easy. That and tons of butter!

    Good luck!
